Green Is Good Blog Hop

                                  WELCOME

Something recycled, something repurposed, whether it’s a milk jug turned in to a scoop, or a tin can made in to a pencil holder. Maybe your kids planted some trees to help the environment, or maybe you did. There are tons of ways to get greener in everyday life.
Today we are showing off our creations to celebrate Earth Day 2013.
If you’re just starting here make sure to head over to the beginning at My Life in Arts’ n Crafts’. I hear she’s giving away some goodies!

All of us have bottles around. Usually I toss them in the recycle bin, but when Jessi asked us to repurpose something , I thought I need to organize my paint brushes and I need a change bucket. So these are what I came up with.

The big one is a sauce jar. The smaller one is plastic flower container.

The first step is, if you are going to use food containers, make sure you wash them very well. I put mine through the dishwasher. Next I wanted to change the color. The best product I have found for this is alcohol inks. There are several brands out there, but I LOVE Viva Decor products. Their alcohol inks are very bright. All you do is use a cotton ball or applicator and sponge the outside of the bottle with the color of your choice. They dry very quickly, like 5 minutes at the most!

I thought it would be fun to add words to the containers. I used little metal letters on the change jar. I used the amazing E-6000 adhesive. This stuff sticks ANYTHING to ANYTHING!! If you don't have some around your house, you need some!! For the brush bottle I used Making Memories rub-on letters. I thought these looked kind of like they were painted or sponged on.

The finishing touches were to cover the screw top area of the brushes with a piece of old material that I tore into strips. Then for the change container I again used the E-6000 adhesive and put pennies on the lid.

There are so many things you can do with clear containers. The ideas are endless! Use your imagination and repurpose some of those containers instead of recycling them all.

~~~ENJOY~~~
