Cinco De Mayo at Cuttin' & Stampin'

Head over to Cuttin' & Stampin' to see how the girls have been getting you ready for Cinco De Mayo all week!!

I am starting an 8x8 album which will be items from my childhood trips. My parents and I drove all over the United States, Mexico, Eastern Canada and Central America. We were in a van and camped 90% of the time. There were many adventures that are fun to look back at. I am taking a couple of scrapbooks I found when I moved recently from my childhood and are taking the items out and preserving them better.

So today I am sharing with all of you a page from one of the trip to Mexico in 1981.

Green Is Good Blog Hop

                                  WELCOME

Something recycled, something repurposed, whether it’s a milk jug turned in to a scoop, or a tin can made in to a pencil holder. Maybe your kids planted some trees to help the environment, or maybe you did. There are tons of ways to get greener in everyday life.
Today we are showing off our creations to celebrate Earth Day 2013.
If you’re just starting here make sure to head over to the beginning at My Life in Arts’ n Crafts’. I hear she’s giving away some goodies!

All of us have bottles around. Usually I toss them in the recycle bin, but when Jessi asked us to repurpose something , I thought I need to organize my paint brushes and I need a change bucket. So these are what I came up with.

The big one is a sauce jar. The smaller one is plastic flower container.

The first step is, if you are going to use food containers, make sure you wash them very well. I put mine through the dishwasher. Next I wanted to change the color. The best product I have found for this is alcohol inks. There are several brands out there, but I LOVE Viva Decor products. Their alcohol inks are very bright. All you do is use a cotton ball or applicator and sponge the outside of the bottle with the color of your choice. They dry very quickly, like 5 minutes at the most!

I thought it would be fun to add words to the containers. I used little metal letters on the change jar. I used the amazing E-6000 adhesive. This stuff sticks ANYTHING to ANYTHING!! If you don't have some around your house, you need some!! For the brush bottle I used Making Memories rub-on letters. I thought these looked kind of like they were painted or sponged on.

The finishing touches were to cover the screw top area of the brushes with a piece of old material that I tore into strips. Then for the change container I again used the E-6000 adhesive and put pennies on the lid.

There are so many things you can do with clear containers. The ideas are endless! Use your imagination and repurpose some of those containers instead of recycling them all.

~~~ENJOY~~~
Croppy Fun this past weekend
This weekend was so much fun! Kim, Melissa and I attended a fundraiser crop to raise money for a local church's food bank and homeless shelter.
There were lots of prizes to be had and games to play and even a fun challenge to do! I got 10 layouts done. I consider that a very productive weekend. I got some design team stuff done and some vintage photos on to some pages. Here are two pages I can share for now.
This layout is of my grandfather.
 This layout is just a fun one from last summer using a photo Ron took of me trying to catch a pelican.
The challenge was to pick a set of stamps from a group of stamps that were laying upside down on the table. You had 21 minutes to create something. There was a panel of judges. Here are the stamps and the creations Melissa, Kim and I created.
This is my tag.
This is Melissa's card
This is Kim's card.
My tag won the challenge. I was very surprised! Thank you judges.
There were also lots of prizes every half hour and then a daily door prize and raffle tickets to purchase. Here is a picture of some of the prizes I won through out the weekend, minus the ones that I used during the weekend. LOL!
Thank you to Rebecca for putting on such a fun event! I will be looking forward to attending again next year!
Dr. Seuss Blog Hop
It's Dr. Seuss Day!
Welcome to the Wonderful World of Dr. Seuss! We are so happy you dropped by to celebrate his birthday with us. He was a wonderful highly revered children’s author who many of us learned to read by. The quote below is taken from a Wikipedia entry about his life. I myself (Teresa)  am so thrilled to have had the privilege to teach about him during my years as a school teacher.
“In May 1954, Life magazine published a report on illiteracy among school children, which concluded that children were not learning to read because their books were boring. Accordingly, William Ellsworth Spaulding, the director of the education division at Houghton Mifflin who later became its Chairman, compiled a list of 348 words he felt were important for first-graders to recognize and asked Geisel to cut the list to 250 words and write a book using only those words.[33] Spaulding challenged Geisel to "bring back a book children can't put down." [34] Nine months later, Geisel, using 236 of the words given to him, completed The Cat in the Hat. It retained the drawing style, verse rhythms, and all the imaginative power of Geisel's earlier works, but because of its simplified vocabulary, it could be read by beginning readers. The Cat in the Hat and subsequent books written for young children achieved significant international success and they remain very popular today. In 2009 Green Eggs and Ham sold 540,366 copies, The Cat in the Hat sold 452,258 copies, and One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish (1960) sold 409,068 copies—outselling the majority of newly published children's books.[35]
For our hop we have several wonderful projects for you to enjoy. We are starting here at Three Scrappy Gals. If you have come from Teresa's Blog (http://freshandrenewed.blogspot.com/) you are in the right place. If not please go to Three Scrappy Gals and start at the beginning you don’t want to miss any Seusstical creations.
Hey everybody! I hope you have enjoyed the projects so far. There are still some beautiful projects to come!
I decided to go a little out of the norm and use different colors, but I used a Dr. Seuss quote as inspiration:
Today You Are You,
That is Truer Then True.
 There is No One Alive
That is You're then You!
This is my boyfriend Ron. He is such an amazing man, but he is not afraid to fly his geek flag. That is one of the main reasons I love him so!
Thanks for hopping with us today!!
Cuttin and Stampin is sponsoring Theresa, The Scrabooking Queen
We are all excited over at Cuttin and Scrappin to be sponsoring Theresa, The Scrapbooking Queen today.
The design team has created many fun and beautiful projects using the A Muse Studio line of products. You should pop on over there and check them all out!
This is the project I created. All the paper and the stamps are A Muse products.
I used 2 large punches to punch out the scalloped square and the plain square. I inked the edges with Tim Holtz Distress Ink pads.
A Muse Stamps Used:
Woodland Friends
Snail & Co.
The flowers were created by punching strips of A Muse paper with this EK Success quilling flower punch. I used 2 strips for the smaller flowers and 4 for the larger flower. The centers are buttons I had in my stash. The flower pedals are from a Prima flowers tin.
This wreath is my hanging in my dining room to brighten it up for spring.
If you'd like to purchase any A Muse products, now is a great time to shop!   A Muse Studio is having a huge sale on items that will be retiring from their catalog.  They have stamps, cardstock (including gingham, cloud and polka-dot pattern), washi tape, and dies for a whopping 30% off.  Shop soon, because supplies are limited on the retiring items.
As an added little bonus, I am giving away some blog candy! All you have to do is follow my blog and leave me a comment! These are great for Smashing! 3 packs of rub-ons and 2 cardstock die-cuts, all from DaisyD.
Thanks for stopping by today! I hope everyone has a great week.
Get out there and get inspired and get crafty.
